Global Citizens Program

The Global Citizens Project will now be referred to as the Global Citizens Program (GCP).

Global Citizens Program (GCP) is a program that creates curricular and co-curricular activities for undergraduate students within the framework of the . The aim is to help students engage with global issues, cultivate their cultural awareness, and promote their global competencies.

Being a global citizen can mean many things, but at the heart of it all is being able to engage meaningfully and effectively with people, places, events, challenges, and opportunities.

For the purposes of the Global Citizens Program, ľ¹ÏÊÓÆµ has identified three primary qualities possessed by a global citizen based on the research of Hans Schattle in his book, The Practices of Global Citizenship (2008):

Program Requirements

The Global Citizens Program is divided into two tiers and can be completed in
two to six semesters:

Tier 1: Global Explorer

  1. Take 4 courses with the
    a.You must receive a grade of B or higher
    b.Many courses are already embedded into your major requirements

  2. Receive the Global Explorer badge at the end of the semester that you
    complete your fourth GCPC course

  3. Optional: Complete Tier 2

Tier 2: Global Leader

  1. Complete a study abroad program (1 week minimum)
    OR
  2. Complete two of the following activities:
    a. Bulls Service Break (1 week min.)
    b. Peace Corps Prep
    c. Community service/volunteer work (45 hours min.)
    d. Research (45 hours min.)

FAQs

Q: Am I eligible to receive the Global Citizens Program (GCP)? 

A: Yes! This program is open to any undergraduate student, on any ľ¹ÏÊÓÆµ campus, pursuing any major!

Q: What do I have to do to earn the Global Citizens Program (GCP)? 

A: The list of requirements can be found above. 

Q: When can I begin earning the GCP? 

A: You can begin earning the program at any time as long as you have at least 2 full semesters left, as this is the minimum allowable time to complete the program.

Q: How do I begin earning the GCP?

A: To begin, you will need to attend the Start Your Adventure workshop.The Canvas "course" is self-led, meaning there are no due dates. You simply upload the required documents for each requirement as you complete them. 

Q: Am I able to submit activites I completed prior to enrolling in the GCP course? 

A: Yes! We want you to be able to earn the award without having to add too much to your schoolwork, so any courses or activities you have completed while you’ve been a student at ľ¹ÏÊÓÆµ will count for the GCP

Q: How long does it take to complete the GCP?

A: The program can be completed in as little as two semesters, but we recommend you
don’t rush through it. You have up to six semesters to finish the program!

Q: What do I earn by completing the Global Citizens Program?

A: The biggest item that you earn during your GCP journey is the experiences working with and learning about different aspects of our planet as well as different cultures across the globe. You will also:

  • Have the GCP noted on your transcript
  • Receive the GCP Global Explorer digital badge for completing tier 1
  • Receive the GCP Global Leader digital badge completing tier 2
  • Get your name listed as a Global Citizens Program recipient in the
    commencement program
