WLE Tutoring Policy
Tutoring appointments are 30-minutes each. If there are no following appointments or students waiting to be tutored, then a tutor can work with you for a max of 60 minutes at their discretion. By receiving tutoring, you agree to abide by the WLE Tutoring policy.
WLE Tutoring Mode
For the Fall 2025 semester, tutoring is offered both in-person and virtually. ľƵ St. Petersburg and ľƵ Tampa offer in-person tutoring.
- Virtual tutoring is offered to all 3 campuses (ľƵT, ľƵSP, ľƵSM) by appointment only. Virtual tutoring is provided via Microsoft Teams (which you must have downloaded before your appointment). Students from ľƵSM (and students studying French at ľƵSP) are highly encouraged to take advantage of our virtual tutoring sessions.
- For In-person tutoring at ľƵ Tampa: appointments are highly encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. Please note however that appointments take priority and, thus, walk-ins are not guaranteed tutoring aid. Tutoring takes place in our Language Lab, which is located at CPR (Cooper Hall) room 467. We encourage all students to plan their tutoring sessions in advance. You can learn more about our tutors from their bios down below.
- ľƵ St. Petersburg also offers in-person tutoring through the Debbie Nye Sembler . All in-person tutoring is drop-in based (no appointment necessary). Students can just stop by the front desk in DAV 107 when a tutor is scheduled. The Debbie Nye Sembler Student Success Center is a separate office from the ľƵ World Languages department, so please go to their page for more information on their policies and procedures.

Meet Your Tutors
Abdubadie Qari - Arabic
Hey there! My name is Abdubadie Qari (you can call me “Abdul”, for short), and I am a graduate student of linguistics here at the Department of World Languages. I am currently enrolled in the Applied Linguistics MA program, and I am deeply interested in studying languages and understanding the colorful meanings embedded within them. I received my Bachelor’s in the English Language from King Abdul-Aziz University in Saudi Arabia before coming to Tampa and continuing my Master’s at ľƵ.
I am a Saudi Arabian native, born and raised in the city of Jeddah. I began my journey learning about different languages at a young age where English was the primary focus of my learning. Learning Spanish is one of my main interests at the moment, particularly because of its beautiful culture along with its shared history with Arabic.
As expected, I am a native speaker of Arabic, and I hope to use my knowledge of the Arabic language to assist all who want to learn more about my native language and culture. I am also well-versed in various Arabic-speaking cultures from the Middle East. Conversational Arabic, in particular, is one of my biggest strengths along with the beginner and intermediate levels of Arabic.
If you are interested in learning more about Arabic culture and the Arabic language, please feel free to schedule an appointment and I will gladly assist you in your language learning journey!

Bismark Peprah Adu - French

Hello and welcome! My name is Bismark Peprah Adu, and I am originally from Ghana, West Africa. I earned my bachelor's degree in French Education Studies with a minor in History from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. Following strong academic performance, I was awarded a full scholarship by the Government of France to pursue French Linguistics at Université de Lomé, Togo.
With over eight years of teaching experience, I have taught languages at the elementary, middle school, high school, college, and university levels. My background includes teaching Akan (my mother tongue) and French as a Foreign Language in Ghana, as well as English as a Second Language in Côte d’Ivoire. In addition, I am an author of French educational materials and a member of the Ghana Association of Writers.
Currently, I am pursuing a dual master's degree—MA in French and MA in Applied Linguistics— while serving as a graduate representative, certified online instructor, and teaching assistant for French II. My one-on-one tutorials are designed to build confidence in speaking, writing, listening, and reading through an interactive and support approach.
Feel free to book an appointment with me—I'll be glad to support your language-learning journey!

Caroline McCaughey - Spanish

Hello, I’m Caroline! I am originally from Southern California, but have lived all over the U.S., including New York City and Chicago. I am a first year graduate student studying Applied Linguistics here at ľƵ. I began hearing Latin American (Mexican) Spanish spoken by my Mother and Abuelita as a kid, which inspired my great love of language. I continued to work with Spanish into undergrad, while obtaining a BA in Theater. I have also casually studied German, Russian, and Japanese, and will be working to gain fluency in Korean during my time as a grad student. I aspire to one day perform literary translation between English, Spanish, and Korean.
As a new tutor, I am excited to work with beginning level Spanish students, and share the language learning tools I have found most effective throughout my own education.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to schedule a session!

Jaime Gordon - Spanish

Hi, I’m Jaime! I completed my Bachelor’s in Applied Linguistics at ľƵ in 2025, and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Linguistics: English as a Second Language. Although I’m a South Florida native, I love being able to call ľƵ “home”.
Language learning and teaching is truly my passion, and I hope to share that with you as we work together! I have been a language learner since middle school—having studied French, Korean, and Spanish—so I understand the various challenges and milestones that come with learning a second or foreign language. As a tutor, I seek to create a space where students can feel more confident and in-control of their own learning than they may be able to in a traditional environment. Whether you want to practice a tricky new grammar form or review weeks-old vocabulary, our time together is dedicated to your specific needs, goals, and pace.
Outside of academics, I love dancing, exploring new foods, and spending time outdoors. I truly believe that language learning can be much more about curiosity and persistence than memorizing rules, and I’m excited to help you discover what works best for you. I look forward to meeting you and supporting your journey here at ľƵ!

Joshua Kennedy - French

Hello! My name is Josh Kennedy, and I received my Bachelor’s here at ľƵ in Psychology
and Applied Linguistics in 2020. I loved it so much that I’ve returned to get my Master’s
in Applied Linguistics and Teaching English. I aspire to work overseas one day and
teach English and become fluent in at least one other language.
Language learning is something I am passionate about, and as your tutor I hope I can help instill some of that same passion. I’ve been studying French since I was in high school and continued at the university level. As an avid language learner myself, I understand that the process can be frustrating. I will strive to accommodate whatever your immediate needs may be with French. I’ll be happy to go over grammatical concepts with you, or even provide a more relaxed environment to practice your speaking and pronunciation. It’s all dependent your situation. I recommend letting me know ahead of time what you would like to possibly cover when you make an appointment, that way I can gather some relevant materials to help you.
Japanese is another language that I really enjoy and, outside of language learning, some other hobbies of mine are going to the gym, traveling/road trips, and martial arts. I love trying new foods and going out to do things like karaoke or see live music as well.
If you’re interested in advancing your French skills, please do not hesitate to book with me. Hope to see you soon!
