Dear Members of the ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ Community,
The growth and visibility of ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ’s research enterprise has been one of the most important contributions to the university’s upward trajectory during the past decade. ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ now ranks in the top 50 universities, public or private, for research expenditures – an impressive statistic for a university of our relative youth. We owe much of this success to ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ’s faculty and the dedicated focus of the team at ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ Research & Innovation, led by Senior Vice President Dr. Paul Sanberg since 2013.
After more than 12 years in administration and almost three decades of service to ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ, Dr. Sanberg has decided to transition from his role as Senior Vice President and focus on his research in the areas of neuroscience and brain repair. He will also advance the continued growth and development of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame (FIHF) and the ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ Institute for Advanced Discovery & Innovation (IADI). Effective 18 January 2021, Dr. Sanberg will return to the faculty as Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and Brain Repair, Morsani College of Medicine. He will retain his leadership roles at the NAI, FIHF and IADI.
A national search for a new Vice President for Research & Innovation will commence during the spring. In the interim, Keith Anderson, Assistant Vice President for Research & Innovation, will serve as acting leader of ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ Research & Innovation. Keith is a respected member of the ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ community. He will strive to ensure that ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ’s strong momentum continues.
I wish to sincerely thank Dr. Sanberg for his extraordinary dedication to ľ¹ÏÊÓƵ research and to cultivating innovation in Florida. We wish him the best in the next chapter of his intellectual and professional journey.
Sincerely,
Steven C. Currall
President and Professor
