Comprehensive Exam

Successful completion of the Comprehensive Examination is a requirement for all students in the CABH program. This exam assesses your understanding of key concepts from core coursework and your ability to apply this knowledge in your area of concentration.

 
Eligibility

To be approved to take the Comprehensive Exam, you must:

  • Successfully complete all 4 program core courses
  • Successfully complete your required concentration courses
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Earn a grade of B or higher in all 4 core courses listed below
    (If you received lower than a B in any core course, you must retake the course and earn a B or better before you can take the exam.)
     

When to Take the Exam

Plan to take the exam in the semester after completing the required core and concentration courses. You must be approved before taking the exam.

How to Get Approval

  • Request the Comprehensive Exam Approval Form from your advisor.
  • Complete the form and return it to your advisor for signature and processing.
  • Submit the signed form by the last day of the second week of classes in the semester in which you plan to take the exam.

Preparing for the Exam

Review materials from each of the 4 core courses listed below.
(It is important to save your syllabi, notes, and assignments from these courses to help you prepare.)
 
The Comprehensive Exam will include questions based on the following 4 courses:

  • MHS 6069 – Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health
  • MHS 6027 – Cultural Competency in Children's Mental Health
  • MHS 6706 – Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Policy
  • MHS 6732 – Research & Evaluation in Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health
